Mogake Teapot / by Hakusan
One-of-a-kind lines drawn by the sea.
A unique pattern created through the traditional Tokoname technique known as Mogake (seaweed wrapping). By wrapping Amamo (eelgrass) from the shoreline around the teapot before firing, the salt in the seaweed reacts with the clay's minerals. This process manifests as delicate, reddish-brown lines—resembling spun silk or a natural landscape captured in clay.
Handcrafted by the artisan Hakusan, this teapot embodies a sophisticated beauty within its rustic texture. The flow of the pattern from the lid to the body is a testament to the collaboration between fire and nature; no two pieces ever share the same expression.
A petite companion to nurture in your palms.
With a capacity of approximately 130ml, this teapot is ideal for carefully brewing high-quality tea leaves with a small amount of water. Despite its compact size, the artisan’s meticulous touch is evident everywhere—from the delicate decorative details at the base of the spout to the ergonomic curve of the handle that seems to cling to the hand.
The internal ceramic strainer is also hand-pierced by the artist, one hole at a time, to ensure a smooth and graceful pour. As you use it, the teapot will develop a rich patina, deepening in character over time. We invite you to experience the joy of "seasoning" your own tea tool during your daily rituals.
